At the community club session, results from three studies investigating the effects of diabetes and prediabetes on the treatment of people with tuberculosis and their x-rays will be presented.
The first study talks about how common it was to find diabetes and prediabetes in people with tuberculosis and their relatives. It was seen that in these people, diabetes and prediabetes was twice as common compared to what the Peruvian Ministry of Health had mentioned.
The second study was used to see how blood sugar levels affect the appearance of the x-rays of people with tuberculosis. People with higher amounts of blood sugar were seen to show more tuberculosis damage on their x-rays.
The latest research aimed to measure whether tuberculosis treatment is less effective in people who have diabetes or prediabetes. They found that having high blood sugar continuously or for a long time makes treatment less effective.
